I know it's hard, for everyone else on the ship. Not getting to see their families. Kinda easier for me in a way.

Sure, I get that. But don't you sometimes feel a little out of place? You know, if everyone's talking about their families, and how much they miss them, and you can't compare yourself to everyone else? I mean, I feel that way sometimes. About the things people say, and how I can't relate to any of it.

Well, yeah. All the time. I even lied about having a birthday once.

[It didn't end well.]

Why would you feel that way?

I don't have a mom. Most humans do. I mean, I came from somewhere, I must have had one at some point, but nobody can tell me anything about her.

[He shrugs.]

It's like you and not having parents, except it's just the one.

Sounds kinda worse though. I mean, I've always known I didn't have parents, no one in my species does.

[just_displaced]

Maybe. I don't know. You don't spend time with people from your species much, though. Sometimes I think I don't either. I'm still pretty convinced I'm not actually from Earth. Maybe I was hatched from an egg, too. How would I know?

I didn't really fit it that well at home. They thought I might do better at the academy.

[That does get a little laugh out of Radu.]

Well, you don't look Andromedan, but there are lot of other galaxies out there.

I'd have to have nicer hair to be Andromedan, right?

[Yeah, he likes your hair, Radu. Deal with it.]

I think I was born somewhere else. I think they brought me to Earth and told me I was human. I just know it.

[He pushes his bangs off his forehead a little self-consciously.]

It's certainly not impossible.

Okay, well, good. If you're saying it's not impossible, and you're from a different planet, then it's probably possible.

[A long pause.]

Want more pizza?

Yeah. Why not?

Okay. Let's see what they have.

[He's just gonna stand up and go examine all the pizza, no big deal. There're so many options here, he pretty much wants to try everything.]

Normally I'd tell you to avoid trying the really weird ones, but if you didn't have pizza back home, you should definitely try the really weird kinds. Just to say you did.

Are anchovies on pizza totally normal to anyone, alien or not? Tell me truthfully.

What are anchovies?

They're... a small fish? A small, salty fish. My dad likes them. You know what a sardine is?

No, sorry. I like fish, though! We caught a bunch when we went planet side one time, it was the best thing ever.

Okay, well, I mean, you can try it. I can't necessarily recommend it, but I wouldn't try to dissuade you.

I've never really found anything I don't like yet.

That's good. I can't think of much I don't like either. Well, except anchovies on pizza. And most alcohol.

I've, uh, never had that before.

[Radu wasn't invited when the cool kids snuck some into the dorms.]

I'd try anchovies, though.

You shouldn't bother trying alcohol anyway. It's not that good, no matter what the cool kids say.

[Staring at the pizza long and hard, like there's a secret message in it. Who knows, maybe there is.]

This one. It has pineapple on it. That's fun, right?

Sure! Pineapple's great.

Never had it with cheese, though.

[He's got his slice of pizza, he's just waiting for Radu to pick his.]
