You shouldn't be so modest. It's beautiful, and you're good at making things like that. You should be proud. Brag about it. Shout it from the rooftops. That's what I'd be doing. Names're hard, though. I need something perfect. He can't just be any old Ken or Bob or Mike.
I'm good at making things that are a little more dangerous than your bird. That isn't really something you shout from rooftops. This was a special project.
Got a favorite musician or movie star or historical figure?
I like Bob Dylan a lot. But I just said I can't name him Bob. I like The Beatles, too, but then you can't really pick a favorite, because they all go together. And they all have boring names anyway, except for Ringo, and he doesn't really look like a Ringo to me. I'm going to have to think about it. It's not a decision to be made lightly.
Could name him Dylan, though. Or um...I don't know, maybe a name from a song of his? [ Sorry, Ginsberg. She knows who Bob Dylan is, at least... ] I'm sure the perfect name will come to you eventually. And he probably won't mind if you just call him Bird for now. In fact, as his programmer, I can assure you he won't mind.
Yeah, he probably won't be too offended by that. On the other hand, if I had a kid, I wouldn't just call them Baby because I didn't know what else to call them. Okay, maybe I would. Actually, it's pretty likely that I would.
[ Lots of people don't name their babies right away. Pretty sure they pick a name by the time the kids are old enough to understand they haven't got a name, but then it's not exactly my area of expertise. ]
I guess I could believe that. It's not like a baby can remember much of anything anyway. You could probably call it whatever you wanted. I mean, I don't know what I was originally called when I was born. That must not have done me too much harm. Although I do still hate to go by Michael, for whatever reason. Thanks for not calling me Michael, by the way. You'd be amazed at how many people do, even after I tell them not to.
Logically, yeah, that's true, but you have no idea how many people call me Michael. I mean, my dad can get away with it, because he's my dad. He can call me whatever he wants, I guess.

I've no idea what I was called as a baby either, but I suspect it was probably Toshiko, same as I've been called all the rest of my life.
